Irish Famine Orphan Girls Commemoration

DATE CHANGE: The annual Irish Famine Orphan Girls Commemoration event will now be held on Sunday 24th November from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Famine Rock, Burgoyne Reserve, The Strand (near Stevedore Street), Wiliamstown. The event is free and open to everyone. All are welcome.

This year’s guest speaker is Noeleen Lloyd, who has been in Ireland visiting historians and workhouses in Galway, Clare, Sligo and Derry. This year’s event features the story of 16 year old orphan girl Jane Troy of Roscrea, County Tipperary, who arrived in Australia 175 years ago aboard the Pemberton.
